Valerie Plame and Laura Bush: together at last!

While getting ready to go see/hear Jerry Casale and Vale [Search and Destroy, the SF punk fanzine] in celebration of James Stark's updated SF photo book, Punk 77, at Beyond Baroque, I caught part of the Washington Correspondents Dinner. I'm taping it to see just how much Stephen Colbert sticks it to the man.

But how weird is it to see a blonde, radiant, yet outed CIA agent Valerie Plame and her husband, Ambassador Joe Wilson, in the same room as a smiling, always talking Laura Bush and her spouse, looking rather uncomfortable and isolated?

Did you know the Bush administration wants to criminally prosectute JOURNALISTS/REPORTERS for leaking info that may be detrimental to them? Doesn't matter if his Admin is breaking the laws of our great country. All that matters is if they leak info those in charge don't want leaked.

Isn't that the role of the press: to uncover crimes against citizens when perpetrated by the government? Or big business? Or increasingly, when both OUR government and big business conspire against US. Read more about it online, starting with the NY Times and

Who is on the right of Mr. Colbert? None other than one of my all-time heroines, Helen Thomas. Ms. Thomas, covering the White House since before many of your parents were born, has been quite visibly ill-treated by those in power in DC. But it hasn't stopped that under five foot, over 80 year old woman!

If you haven't been paying attention, special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is investigating who divulged Plame's name in retaliation for Wilson's published reports that Iraq was not buying yellowcake from Nigeria. That revelation contradicated the current regime's basis for invading Iraq. It's why Rove has been brought back 5 times to answer questions. Remember when W said he'd fire anyone involved? Now it turns out they have to be found guilty before he'd fire ol' 'turd blossom' (W's term of endearment for Karl Rove.)

Is W wondering what he's going to have to endure tonight? I bet he'd rather be home drinking Diet Coke? He won't be able to walk away from the press, but of course, the press won't be able to ask him questions either. Aren't we just too, too polite these days of $4 a gallon gas, of shrinking incomes, of mass walkouts planned across the US on Monday? Oh, we are so civilized.

I'm glad I'm off to celebrate my punk past, although the focus is on San Francisco -- the MOST political scene of that whole early punk era. Thank goodness early punk was in-your-face! How are we to resolve any issues if we lie or hide behind tuxedos? "People sleeping, like Washington DC." ("Year One" by X).

Yo, Jenny:

What's wrong with you and Alice these days? Both of your blogs have become too tame. Let's hear both of you rant like you did a while back. Rrraaaant, baby, rrrraaaant! Bitch, bitch, bitch!

Why does'nt Jade have a blog? At this point, she could probably blow you both away.

You went to see Vale? That old fool is still around? Oy Vey!

Too lame? I write about all the war correspondents killed in Iraq, about Stephen Colbert sticking it to W 4 feet away from him, net neutrality (all of which takes hours and hours of readling news every day), etc. Alice writes about immigrants and we both write about how women need to claim their place in punk history and we are too lame? Where's your blog?

Your claim about Jade blowing both of us away would enrage her! If you wanna know where's her blog, write her! Are you a mind-reader, how the hell do you know what she'd write?

You have no idea the emails I send to my friends about politics, punk, life and daily struggles to survive, do my photo work, and stay healthy.

You can fuck yourself. Is that ranting enough?

Dear Anonymous:
You hide your identity and dare to put down Alice and me when we are few of the early LA punks to write about not only that history but current politics? You put down Vale and YOU don't have the balls to identify yourself? You are the problem, not us. At least have the courage to identify yourself and do something worthy. Where's your blog?

Anyone who doesn't think I bitch and make suggestions how to improve things hasn't been reading my blogs nor my site. You are the fool. Fuck off or do something worthwhile.

I wrote "Tame", not "Lame". I was only playing with you; you should'nt take stuff so seriously.
I was only trying to get a rise out of you, and I did! I really like your blog - keep up the good work.

ok, too tame vs too lame (minor difference, both mean virtually the same). Your comment still doesn't make any sense. Why try to get a rise outta me? Why don't go after the assholes ruining this planet, co-opting our music, corporatizing everything and making us pay through the roof for things like internet access, music WE created, etc?

If you like what I'm doing, say so. If you don't, say so. Don't criticize me and then tell me to keep the good work. You suck the energy outta the room.

Do something to move things forward. Don't put someone down just to get a response. Put down the evil-doers fucking up our lives, not the ones sticking their necks out to tell the truth that needs to be said, whether punk history or current events!
